Over the weekend, the OneLedger team attended the first virtual cross-border Hackathon, BorderHacks, an event organized by the Windsor Essex Economic Development Corporation (WE EDC). The event ran from late Friday evening to Sunday evening with over 600 Hackers participating from all over the world.

The OneLedger President, George Connolly, joined Friday evening's inauguration ceremony by presenting a short speech on what OneLedger is doing to help out during the current COVID19 crisis. George mentioned about how OneLedger is using it's cutting edge blockchain technology to make a difference in the fight against COVID19. OneLedger has partnered with the Institute For Border Logistics and Security (IBLS) to launch an International Health Passport to help re-open the US-Canada borders.

It was a compelling message conveyed by the OneLedger President. George ended his speech by stating, "I really want all of us to think about what we are doing to ourselves during this lockdown and ask the simple question; Can we do better?"

On Saturday, the OneLedger developers hosted a 50-minute Technical Blockchain Workshop to educate the audience about the blockchain technology and OneLedger as a blockchain solution.

From the OneLedger team, Tanmay Bhattacharya, Freddy Li and Hao Sun hosted the Technical Workshop. They spoke about many interesting concepts such as Proof of Stake, Proof of Work, interoperability, HD Wallet, permissioned blockchain etc.

The Challenge

All the participating companies presented their Hackathon challenges to the Hackers. The OneLedger team's challenge was to "Track car parts from the Manufacturer to the Consumer using OneLedger, a decentralized trustless platform, where the car's original manufacturer can upload the information about the car parts, and an end-user can verify this information anytime during the life cycle of the car."

The Hackers rose to the occasion and developed solutions for three days straight to win the $1000 reward allocated for the OneLedger challenge. Our team received many exciting submissions, but the BitWheel app impressed the OneLedger developer's the most. A group of four developers built BitWheel; a unique app that provides a User Interface to query car parts information and provides the Manufactures with a means to upload data for the customers. The OneLedger challenge was also covered on one of Canada's top news channels, CTV news. Click here to watch the video.

Our team thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the BorderHacks Hackathon and would like to thank the BorderHacks team for allowing us to showcase our technology in front of a global audience.
